Singing Groups with a Specific Health Focus

With Singing In Mind

With Singing In Mind was established in 2015 and is an initiative working in Kendal with people who have developed a neurological condition such as Motor Neurone Disease, Dementia, Brain Injury, Parkinson’s Disease and Stroke. We work mainly through singing and we work as a group. Our sessions are full of warmth, fun, laughter and delight, repetition and variety, hard concentration, and, with a cuppa before and after our singing, provide a good opportunity to socialise for both client and carer alike.

Dignity In Dementia

(groups in Sedbergh and Silverdale)

Dignity in Dementia has set up two dementia embracing singing groups that enable individuals with dementia to sing and have fun with members from their local communities in Sedbergh and Silverdale. So whether you support someone living with dementia who enjoys singing or you live locally and fancy having a good singsong whilst making new friends, then come along.

A Threshold Choir in South Lakeland

(Ulverston and Storth)

There is a Threshold Choir in South Lakeland (singing for those at the thresholds of living and dying and others in need of singing kindness) and if you want to know more about it then do contact Sasha or Jenny as below. They have sent me the following information about the group.

The South Lakes Threshold Singers is a women’s singing group meeting in Kendal, Ulverston and Storth. Together we learn songs to sing to those in need of comfort or healing, especially those on the threshold of life. Each session offers an opportunity for you yourself to experience the healing power of being sung to. Our gatherings include sharing circles and shared suppers. We are now recruiting new members.

We are looking for compassionate, spiritually aware women who are interested in sharing the gift of song and who are comfortable being around those who are very ill or approaching the end of their life. You do not need an amazing singing voice to be part of our choir as Threshold singing is about blending individual voices to sound as one. Songs taught by ear.
